The Balvenie scotch whisky 21 Years is matured in two different casks of different character. This whisky has a richer, deeper more complex character than those matured in a single cask. During maturation, The Balvenie 21 Years whisky is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask in which it has been matured for 21 years to an original port cask thereby acquiring character from both casks. The port cask, or pipe has held fine port wines before the whisky is held inside. Here it is sampled every month by The Balvenie Malt Master to ensure that just the right amount of character is imparted by the port casks, enhancing and developing the single malt, whilst preserving its original characteristics.
At the International Spirits Challenge, The Balvenie Portwood 21 Year Old was awarded a prestigious Gold Medal. In 2004, The Balvenie 21 Years received a trophy for best single malt 12 years and at the International Wine & Spirits competition, it was described by the judges as class in a glass.
The Balvenie 21 Years is a single malt of refinement and remarkable character, it is creamy and silky with fruit, honey and spice notes, and has a long and gentle nutty finish.
